Hig Salvager
This project was quite heavily discussed on original Complex forum.
To sum the whole thing up - a modified carrier class ship which main purpose is the collection
of the debris on the battlefield.
Limited production capability - only Utility class - Salvage Collector/Drones & Probes.
No resource drop off points.
2 large bays (frigate sized) 1 on each side so 2 collectors can dock at the same time.
Heavier armour than regular carrier.
2 module slots like carrier - options limited to either Drive System, HS Module, Cloak, Gravity Well Generator
1-2 Special Module slot - Anti-radiation Field and possibly small Defence Shield (or these 2 combined)
2-4 RU Storage (Integral)
Researchable upgrade: Miner Missile
Weapons: 2 Rapid Sweepers/2 Fast Plasma Canons + optional x3 Kinetic Turret/EMP cannon/AM Fast Tracking Turret
2 officers & 20 crew members
I'd like to mention several ideas for the collection system itself:
- manual - the simplest to implement - just produce some Salvage Collectors and send them out
collection is faster and more efficient as 2 collectors can dock at the same time.
- automatic - scripted drones launch when in proximity of debris and then haul the pieces inside.
if no debris detected the drones auto dock.
- tractor beams - not sure if this can be scripted/supported by HW2 engine - just get close to debris
fragments and they will be hauled in without the need for salvage craft

Another overlaping? Personally I do not see the use of it. Current salvager's doing its work pretty good and even better than those in your proposal. (They have drop-off). But of course it is not my decision and lets see what other will say.
P.S. I really don't see the point in arming such vessels...I hate battlecarriers and battleshipyard's also. This in non-homeworld style. And out of simple logic.

Uhh... there is hardly any difference between this proposal and the scavenger.
If you want to weaponize the ship, just build the point defense platforms.

This is pretty much the scavenger. Just without the vunerabilities, which makes a game less interesting, imo. Something like an RU op should need defence

It's more like a mining ship.
To be worth the investment, such a ship ought to have many drop off points, say 8, so that it could carry out its operations rapidly. It ought to also auto-target large debris chunks within a given radius. Additionally, it should be able to capture mining bases.

I'd say that maybe mining bases could use a bit of a tweak, but... I don't think you need that many drop-off points, really. And you have missiles that already auto-target chunks within a given radius... o.o
