Platforms - retire or scuttle?
Just a quick question - platforms in C and CE can move under their own power and can be docked.
Would it make more sense that when they become obsolete due to development instead of just
scuttling them to regenerate crew they could be retired?

I agree. They should be retirable.

You'd get the RUs back, yes, but retiring doesn't give you the crew back (I think this is a bug). I'll enable retiring in the next release.
Re: Platforms - retire or scuttle?
I think it should give the player only 80% of the RUs back. Suppress a unit should not be free?!

Sorry, again my "frenglish"Farcrada wrote:Wait... Whut...? Could repeat you that? Me no understand.
I meaned: removing a turret should not give you all the ressources back. I hope this sentence will be easier to understand

But platforms are a one shot movement. If they have the engine power to fly back to the production ship for retirement, why shouldn't they have the engine power to fly off to the next engagement zone? Could platforms be docked and delivered to the next engagement zone like the sentinals were?

They aren't one shot in complex, but they are very slow and don't have speed upgrades.
Retire only gives you back some amount of the RUs, I don't remember the exact values.

Re: Platforms - retire or scuttle?
Some RUs back are a lot better than a scuttle though.

Re: Platforms - retire or scuttle?
Absolutely, I was just pointing out that it's definitely not 100% efficient as a process.
Re: Platforms - retire or scuttle?
I also think there should be a limit on travel distance and if you go past a certain distance it cannot come back to retire unless you close in with a production ship with a frigate/capital bay. Possible maybe?
Also, they shouldn't be able to get past 1 shot movements really.

Re: Platforms - retire or scuttle?
Unfortunately there is only black and white here, and nothing in between. They either can move freely or they can't.
Re: Platforms - retire or scuttle?
Also, platforms apparently cannot be recycled. When I give them the ability, I simply get a CTD.
Re: Platforms - retire or scuttle?
Oh. Better to leave the platforms as they are then!

Re: Platforms - retire or scuttle?
I kinda agree with ALC. It seems to be too much work for a minor change, doesn't it?

Re: Platforms - retire or scuttle?
I've noticed that as soon as things get either impossible or hard, some of us put it aside and leave it as it is.
Yes, sometimes that is the best way to go, but I think that you should atleast make a task of it that has no dead line and can be looked at anytime.
I think it's disappointing some of you just throw in the towel if the enemy shoots back... (._.')

Re: Platforms - retire or scuttle?
Not throwing the towel in. It just wasn't going to make it into 8.6.1.
Re: Platforms - retire or scuttle?
This idea should be considered, for sure. I just wanted to underline that if this minor change is layaway for a few time due to a CTD, it does not matter.

Re: Platforms - retire or scuttle?
Indeed. We should focus on the easier fixes first, and get them out. RnD can be going on in the background on an ongoing basis.Nakamura wrote:Not throwing the towel in. It just wasn't going to make it into 8.6.1.
