Recon Cruiser

I think we should consider developing a reconnaissance cruiser along the lines discussed there.
Jimmymac did a model for it which we would have permission to use. It is untextured, so needs UV mapping and textures.

This would be a mid-term project, coming after all the actual bugs and annoying issues have been fixed.

Thoughts?

initially the notion / sound of a "Scout / Recon Cruiser" seemed kind of silly.

But as a Vaygr player, I would love to have an answer to the Chimera station. A mobile cruiser version would be pretty nifty to have.

Can we see the model? It sounds interesting as a concept - imo it should be pre-armed, rather than be modular.

I agree on it not being modular, it was designed as a single role ship — two subsystems: hyperspace and cloak if I remember correctly.

We can make them integrated, if needed.

He doesn't have time anymore to do modelling any more these days. I have the model file and permission to use it if we need it.

The experimental light cruiser would be a nice replacement for the hammer cruiser, seeing as it's model doesn't really fit the hiigaran style. I'd suggest identical roles - in the late game, it can have nukes.

The recon cruiser imo should be added just like suggested. Please upload the models, discuss details for both ships. When the concept is ready, tasks can be created.

I think nukes are a bit heavy for a CL.
I'll dig out the models. We'll need to get them textured.

A single nuke is fine at engineering division - it can be shot down easily. I'm just a bit worried about cruiser overlapping here.

Haven't found the models yet! If necessary, i'll get them from Jimymac again.

Aediren showed off a little micro with a shuttle, pushing forward with it in the midst of a battle. With a minimum of distance he fired it off and began pulling back the shuttle, was close enough that it was able to deliver the nuke on target without my two guardians having much of a chance to fire on it XD

Cruisers would be torn apart before they could do that. The shuttles also have ridiculous speed, this is something else that might need changing.

agreed. in original complex, with all upgrades and drive modules on battlecarriers, I used to launch shuttles at 1000 m/s... It was just... yeah ridiculous.

Shuttles should have their speed normalised.
Hmmm, I still disagree with light cruisers having nukes, especially the Recon cruiser which is a recon and command vessel.

Not really planning to arm it with a nuke- it was an general thought in the event we replace the hammer cruiser. However apparently we can keep it, no one complains about it.
