As im sure we all know by now Gearbox are remakeing HW2 in a new HD carnation. But what will this mean for CE? Will the mod be ported over to the HD remake? Is it even possible? Apparently the game will be able to run much better on modern systems. This is great news for nearly all of us! Yey!! So.... whats the verdict?

We don`t make plans until we know how the new release behaves.

Glad to hear, Nakamura. While I'm overjoyed it's happening... I'm necessarily expecting anything as glorious as your guys' projects.

read the last post at gearbox, they for now just recompiled both games with a bit more modern tools and instructions, meaning mechanically they work the same with mods, so for now it seems there is nothing to worry about, but can expect some better performance from enhanced compilers instruction sets.

Frankly, they could do nothing but update the game to utilise multithreading/multicore (or even just 2 threads/cores) and I'd be over the moon.

that is way harder than you might think, they have to first make the code thread aware, which means checking the whole code base, this is no simple job, although its true it would basically fix all the performance issues, there are other things they can do first that are way easier to do to enhance performance.

one would be to change the memory addressing to 64 bits (not easy, but easier than multithreading).

Instruction sets, when homeworld 2 was made, they only had SSE, now we have SSE2 up to SSSE4 as multimedia instructions, implementing all this stuff would make it work much faster.

OpenGL 5, openGL has changed and enhanced a lot since those times, meaning more graphics and perfomance.

from what i have read over at gearbox it seems they have decided to first fix instruction sets, so just that and the new compile itself probably are faster just from better compiler efficiency.
