Hiigaran Cruiser model Empty Hiigaran Cruiser model

Post by ALC Thu May 09, 2013 7:25 am

Seriously, it always reminded me of a pleasure yacht, or a car ferry, or something.
It is an un-Hiigaran looking vessel. It would be nice to replace it with a sleek ship on the lines of the BC and BB models.

What do people think?

I agree that it's a bit un-Hiigaran-like. However... I do not agree on removing it.
^ My opinion.

It'S not traditional Hiigaran, yes. Nor is the Vortex. Or the Hammer cruiser. They should really stay, though.

Ah, but the Hiig cruiser is so out of sync with the rest of the capital ships - surely we could find a more traditional model. And also make it modular in design as with the DD project?

I'd say if we can find one then yes, if we'd have to make one of our own then rather not.

So there is this
Hiigaran Cruiser model Tfs_2_10

Kinda just another BC/BB-looking ship. Same outline 3 times in the fleet? Makes me wonder if we have to be that strict.

Well... It kinda fits in. I mean: That shows how Hiigaran made their tech more and more advanced.

Are you guys forgetting Jimmymac's models? Those were great!

What happened to them, ALC? Any clue?

Couldn't find anyone to get them textured! I approached several people.
I have the models parked though.

Would a grey model be so bad?! Stealth colours...

Even though the modular cruiser is in the game now, it wasn't much of a pain to get it done.
Whenever we can manage to get this one (or another/better one) into the game, I'll surely support it.
And yes, I don't have doubts anymore, after seeing the "naked" cruiser.

I have never cared for the Hiigaran cruisers and so threw together the modular cruiser below:Hiigaran Cruiser model Cruiser
It still needs some tweeks and LODs.

I also replaced the Hammer Cruiser with the Cruiser from PTV in my complex game:

This is SUPER amazing. I'm sure we'd take that ship.

The hammer cruiser is rather close to how a DD looks, the docking clamps make it look very different from everything.

I would be more than happy to share the model, and any others that I have that you might want. Since I am still tweaking the model, I would be open to suggestions to make the model better fit the ideas for the light and heavy cruisers as outlined here.

Thank you very much.
How many hardpoints does it have?
How many for weapons and how many for subsystems(if any) ?

Please tell us more about what you have right now.

Hiigaran Cruiser model Cruiser
The Torpedo Silos will have a "code red" animation where they are flush with the hull and open up to fire.
The module slot needs to be lowered and the Destroyer Turret hardpoint raised. There is room for a few hull defense guns, I had 6.

Nice.
As you may know, we right now have modular weapon subsystems, which we would like to make fully global. We would give different build options for each hardpoint.
It really sounds all good.

I like the Cruiser idea here, much like Cruisers appeared in WWII. They resemble smaller/faster counterparts to the larger battleships. They typically share the same body style while having less armor. I would however if possible attempt to make them appear less formidable in terms of aesthetics, just enough to appear like a faster than a Battlecruiser but more armored and stronger than a destroyer. I feel the direction of this reflects technologically speaking a median and progression toward the heavier vessels. In short a good intermediary.

I agree wholeheartedly with modular weapons systems. The only fixed weapons I had were the side pulsars and the torpedo launchers (to get the "code red" animation). The destroyer & cruiser turret mounts should be any appropriate sized weapon including Torpedo Silos, Ions and Heavy Ions. The Kinetic Cannon turrets should be anything excluding ions and torpedo silos.

Excellent.
Yeah, those were the restriction lines I was thinking along, too.

@ bladevalant546 : Sorry, but remodeling would take an unreal amount of time. We need to stay reasonable with our requests, the ship really looks great. Larger, more heavy vessels aren't always the culmination of technology. Sometimes going for less armed, more mobile and most importantly a design capable of mass production is superior.

Oh, sorry miss understood me. I was referencing the notion that I liked the smaller model and how it reflects the designed role. I was merely thinking outloud with the notion of making it look lighter. Concerning your last statment mass production modular designs are WAY better no argument there. So sorry for the confusion, I support the idea of modular design, as it is very Higgie in tone.

I know it may appear heavy as of now, however there will be only 2 heavier turrets, the rest will be light.
Honestly, nothing to worry about! It's as simple as changing one word in the code.

The firepower of the main armament also designates the classification of the ship as cruiser or BC, for example.
I do think that the CA (cruiser) ought to have some distinguishing feature so that it will be easy to tell them apart from a BC at a distance. EDIT: Maybe make them less sleek than Bcs.
